Alaska Housing Finance Corporation has many buildings that they have repossessed that need to be sublet or sold to buyers. Sure Foundations will buy those buildings as rental properties or sublet them for AHFC.
Once properties are in the management of Sure Foundations we will be able to pay all property taxes, utilities, etc. Also we could apply for funding from state organizations to meet the needs of individuals that are in need of affordable quality housing.
Increase Quality of Rental Properties
Sure Foundations will work to increase the quality of all rental properties in our care. We will accomplish this by repairing dilapidated properties, making properties more energy efficient, or completely renovating properties that are too far gone for simple repairs.
Sure Foundations will repair properties as needed to maintain safe living conditions through the repair of plumbing, electrical systems, structural problems, and finishing including drywall, fixtures, and cabinetry.
In an effort to keep housing costs low for potential renters, Sure Foundations will work to make properties energy efficient by replacing windows, doors, insulation, and lighting. According to Energy.gov changing the windows in a home can save up to $350 per year. By the same source, insulation can save you up to 50% on your heating cost. In Alaska, where winter is substantially longer than in the rest of the country heating costs alone can make housing unobtainable to most potential renters. Last, Sure Foundations will change the lighting in homes to more energy efficient lighting solutions to include florescent and LED bulbs. According to the Energy Star Program this could save an average home upwards of $264 a year.
